29 Area Students Receive FCMC Foundation Health Career Scholarships Totaling $47K
Twenty-nine area students received 2024 Fulton County Medical Center Foundation Health Career scholarships, totaling $47,000 this spring.Six graduating high school students and 23 college students, including five post-graduate students, were awarded stipends ranging from $1,000 to $3,500 by the Foundation’s scholarship committee.
“They each shared their enthusiasm about their career aspirations, whether they are starting their collegiate journey, or nearing the completion of it,” said Mike Straley, Executive Director of the FCMC Foundation. “Our committee was impressed with the different fields of study our young people are pursuing…nursing, physician, dentistry, optometry, mortuary science, occupational/physical/respiratory therapies, clinical psychology, sonography, paramedic, biomedical engineering, surgical tech and pharmacy. Our scholarship committee is pleased to be able to award scholarship stipends to help them achieve their goals. Through the community’s financial help, these awards are made possible and we are grateful each and every year.”
High School
The six graduating high school recipients are:Kyler Hale (McConnellsburg), who received a Betty Lea Henderson Nursing Scholarship. Hale will be studying Nursing at Hagerstown Community College.
Linkyn Harmon (McConnellsburg), who received a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority stipend. Harmon will be enrolled in the Biology Tech program at Shippensburg University.
Ethan Hopkins (McConnellsburg), who received the inaugural E. Loy Garber Scholarship for Therapies. Hopkins will be studying in the Physical Therapy program at Chatham University.
Brenna Snyder (Forbes Road), who received the Clair & Dorothy Miller Scholarship. Snyder will be enrolled in the Physician Assistant program at St. Francis University.
Imagine Jansen (McConnellsburg), who will be enrolled in the Surgical Tech program at Mount Aloysius College, was awarded the Brandi J. Mellott Memorial Scholarship.
Lexi Seiders (McConnellsburg), who will be enrolled in the Surgical Tech program at Central Penn College, was awarded the Brandi J. Mellott Memorial Scholarship.
College
The five post-graduate college students are:Aiden Barnett (Lock Haven University), who was awarded the Dr. William L. Milroth Doctors of Tomorrow Scholarship. He is majoring in Pre-Med.
Abigail Heister (Florida Institute of Technology), who was awarded the Russell C. McLucas, MD, Scholarship. She is majoring in Clinical Psychology.
Calli Nesbitt-Covert (Touro University), who was awarded the Russell C. McLucas, MD, Scholarship. She is majoring in Occupational Therapy.
Dayton Pelton (Salus University) was awarded the Russell C. McLucas, MD, Scholarship. He is majoring in Optometry.
Alexandra Treml (Dartmouth University) was awarded the Russell C. McLucas, MD, Scholarship. She is majoring in Health Data.
The 18 undergraduate college students are:
Kayla Baker (University of Pitt-Johnstown), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Rachel Bradshaw (Wilkes University), who was awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring in Pharmacy.
Carson Elbin (St. Francis University), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. He is majoring in PreMed.
Abigail Fischer (Hagerstown Community College/Frostburg University), who was awarded the Betty Lea Henderson Nursing Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Drew Gordon (Shippensburg University), who was awarded the Patriot Federal Credit Union Scholarship. She is majoring in Dentistry.
Christopher “Dane” Harvey (Cowley Community College), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. He is majoring as a paramedic/firefighter.
Olivia Henry (Juniata College), who was awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring in Pre-Med.
Alexis Hoover (Penn State Altoona), who was awarded the Betty Lea Henderson Nursing Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Brianna Kylor (Hagerstown Community College), who was awarded the Paul and Louie Stahl Memorial Nursing Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Kyla McCusker (Allegany College of Maryland), who was awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring in Respiratory Therapy.
Molly Mellott (St. Francis University), who was awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring as a Physician’s Assistant.
Cheyenne Risbon (St. Francis University), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Bryonna Ross (University of Pittsburgh), who awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Sarah Schepis (Indiana University of PA), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. She is majoring in Sonography.
Hannah Skiles (Pittsburgh Institute of Mortuary Science), who awarded a Fulton County Industrial Development Authority Scholarship. She is majoring in Mortuary Science.
Libby Skiles (Penn State Mont Alto), who was awarded the Jean E. Toms Memorial Scholarship. She is majoring in Nursing.
Lariah Souders (Indiana University of PA), who was awarded the inaugural Deborah J. D’Amelio Scholarship for RNs. She is majoring in Nursing.
Nicole Treml (Virginia Tech), who was awarded an FCMC Foundation Scholarship. She is majoring in Biomedical Engineering.
The FCMC Foundation’s main scholarship fundraiser is its annual Bluegrass & BBQ each spring. The 10th annual event is set for Friday, April 25, 2025, with award-winning Volume 5 performing for this special night. “This is a milestone anniversary for this fundraiser and it will be a special celebration,” said Straley.
