As a designated Level IV Trauma Center, Fulton County Medical Center is equipped to deliver prompt, specialized care for life-threatening injuries and critical conditions. Our experienced emergency team is trained to assess, stabilize, and provide urgent treatment, providing the care you need when every second counts.

Care for Emergencies and Non-Emergencies

From serious trauma to minor injuries and illnesses, our emergency care providers care for patients 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Our emergency department staff includes four full-

time physicians, emergency nurses, and part-time medical professionals, all working together to care for patients of all ages—from newborns to seniors.

We also offer immediate access to diagnostic tools like CT scans, lab testing, and radiology to support quick and accurate diagnosis. If a higher level of trauma care is needed, we provide fast, coordinated transfers to the appropriate facility.

When To Visit Our Emergency Services & Level IV Trauma Center

  • Wheezing, shortness of breath, and/or breathing difficulties
  • Chest pain
  • Fractures
  • Sudden numbness or significant weakness
  • Bleeding that won't stop
  • Intense, localized abdominal pain
  • A fever that includes convulsions in children under three months
  • Coughing or vomiting blood
  • A sudden inability to speak, see, walk, or move in any way

What to Expect

Arrival
  • Upon arrival to the emergency department, you will be greeted by professional and friendly ED staff that will initiate the coordination of your care with the medical team.
  • Depending on the seriousness of your injury or illness, you may be taken directly to a treatment room or to a waiting room to wait until a treatment is available.

Treatment Room
Our providers and nurses will examine you and create a plan of care based on your individual treatment needs.

  • Laboratory tests and/or diagnostic procedures are such as blood work, x-rays, CT scans and ultrasounds may be performed to help further diagnose your condition.
  • Ogoing analysis of your diagnostic testing and clinical assessment will be considered in your diagnosis and treatment plan
  • As soon as diagnostic results are available the medical team will explain these result and occasionally additional testing may be required.
  • Please ask your health care provider any questions in regard to your test results.
  • Your treatment may take a few minutes to several hours depending on your illness or injury and the presence of other critical patients.

At Discharge
  • The nurse will provide you with a copy of your discharge instructions and any prescriptions for you, as well as explain the medications to you.
  • The nurse will answer any questions about your care or treatment.
  • Please schedule appointments and notify your primary care provider of your visit to receive appropriate care.
  • If you do not have a primary care provider, please let us know, and we would be happy to refer you to one of our care providers.
